School Governor

We are looking for a Governor to join the Governing Board  of Kingsthorpe Village Primary School. Being a school governor is a rewarding opportunity to become involved in your local community, and make a difference to the lives of children. 

Kingsthorpe Village Primary School enables individual potential through positivity and creativity. The school is a single form entry with a team and family focused ethos. It is also at the heart of the village and therefore directly impacts and supports the local community. As a member of the Board, Governors are able to directly impact the progression and future of the pupils. 

Key Responsibilities

Our Governing Board works closely with the Headteacher and senior leaders. The Headteacher is responsible for day-to-day management whereas the role of the governing Board is strategic. As such, the Governors are responsible for:

• determining the mission, values and long-term ambitious vision for the school
• deciding the principles that guide school policies and approving key policies 
• working with senior leaders to develop a strategy for achieving the vision 
• ensuring that parents, pupils, staff and the wider community are involved, consulted and informed as appropriate
• ensuring that all pupils have access to a broad and balanced curriculum such that pupils are well prepared for the next stage of their education and adult life 
• setting the school’s budget and ensuring it is managed effectively together with premises and other resources 
• agreeing the school’s staffing structure and keeping it under review to ensure it supports delivery of the strategy
• ensuring robust risk management procedures are in place and that risk control measures are appropriate and effective 

You may also occasionally be asked to sit on appeal panels relating to disciplinary matters or complaints that the Governing Board need to deal with.

Please note: you must be 18 or over to apply and all new governors must complete a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.

If your application is successful, you will be invited to attend an informal meeting with our Chair of Governors and Headteacher where you will have the opportunity to discuss the role further and ask any questions that you may have. If after that meeting there is an agreement from both parties to proceed, our existing Governing Board will be asked to review your application and to vote to confirm your appointment at their next meeting.
