Blackthorn Primary School

In partnership with the local authority, Blackthorn Primary School will be opening a special unit provision from the 1st September 2021 that will support EYFS and KS1 children who have an EHCP where Social, Emotional, Mental Health is the prime areas needing support. This is an exciting opportunity for a dynamic and inspirational individual to join our senior leadership team, and have an instrumental role in establishing this brand-new provision for vulnerable children. To find out more, please contact the school office on 01604 407254 and we will be very willing to answer questions and arrange visits to the school.

Do you have patience and can you stay positive in the face of adversity? Can you empathise with the feelings of children and young people in crisis and help them reframe their thoughts and behaviours? Do you want to change lives?

Working with children who have Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs is as demanding as it is rewarding, and if challenge and continuous learning whet your appetite, then you have a great opportunity to gain fulfilment and progress in your professional development.  A deep concern for and understanding of children and young people and a desire to lead and motivate staff will be essential. A commitment to safeguarding is also paramount.

We are looking to recruit a talented lead teacher to join us in delivering a broad and balanced curriculum. The nature of our school means that we tailor learning to the individual needs of our children and as such, we seek out teachers who are creative, flexible and highly organised. We are open to any preferred specialism.

If you would like to know more about our school or have any questions about the role we encourage you to get in touch and come to meet us. As a new project, you are welcome to look at our architect’s plans, have a tour of the site and meet the staff to discuss this amazing new provision and all its potential. We genuinely care about our staff, their well-being and their professional development: we are a happy team, committed to working collaboratively and sharing the very best practice.

Applications should be posted to the Sam Chambers, Office Manager, at Blackthorn Primary School or emailed to

Closing date for applications: 12pm Friday 21st May 2021

Interviews will be held on: Wednesday 26th May 2021

Start Date: Monday 1st September 2021

We are committed to safeguarding and protecting the welfare of children and vulnerable adults. Appointed candidates will be expected to undergo the necessary Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks.
